Moving the License Server
Applies to: Licensing
From time to time it may be necessary to move the License Server to a new computer.
Which is the License Server computer?
The License Server is the computer which hosts the Timestone Software USB dongle. Typically the dongle is attached to a white key tag labelled 'License Server' and will have a 5 digit serial number. Note the dongle is also referred to as a 'hardlock'.
Step 1: Install the hardlock and License Server
- With both computers switched off, transfer the hardlock from the old computer to the new then restart.
- It is recommended the hardlock drivers be installed first. These can be downloaded from the downloads page of our website or by clicking here.
- Extract the downloaded zip file and run the file HASPUserSetup.exe
- Download and install the License Server utility. This can be downloaded from the downloads page of our website or by clicking here.
- You can now proceed to step 2
Step 2: Exclude the License Server from the Windows Firewall
In order for other computers on your network to access licenses, the License Server will need to be excluded from the Windows Firewall on the new server. This is done by allowing the following exe through the firewall.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Timestone Software\License Server\tsLServer.exe
Step 3: Copy the licenses from the old server to the new
If you still have access to the old License Server, copy this file from the old server to the equivalent location on the new.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Timestone Software\License Server\tsLServer.lct
Step 4: Run License Manager on all computer and point to the new License Server
With the new License Server in place, it is now necessary to run the License Manager on each computer where you use Timestone Software and direct it to the new Licence Server
- Run License Manager
- Click the setup button
- Enter the name or IP address of the new License Server computer
If you can no longer access the old License Server computer
In cases where the old server is not accessible, Step 3 above will not be possible. Instead:
- Run License Manager on any computer
- Click the Setup button
- Enter the name or IP address of the new License Server computer
- Click Test to verify the connection
- Click the Codes tab then the Add file .. button
- Add you original license files followed by the most recent extension licenses you have
Your original licenses are the ones you will have received when you first bought the application. Original license file names contain the name of the program they belong to eg 10000-15000 (NeoPackPro,4;+1)#220401.tlc. Extension licenses are the licenses you receive when you renew the software. They do not contain the program name eg10000-15000#230501.tlc
If you do not have your original licenses contact support to have them regenerated.
