Canon EOS Cameras
Applies to: CapturePost, OutPost
Which driver?
Two separate "Canon EOS" drivers are available in CapturePost and OutPost. The first, "Canon EOS " supports older Canon EOS cameras whereas the "Canon EOS II" driver suports later Canon cameras. It is expected future Canon EOS cameras will only be supported by the EOS II driver.
Canon EOS I camera driver
The original Canon driver supports the following Canon cameras:
- 10D
- 20D
- D30
- D60
- 300D
- 1D
- 1DMkII
- 1Ds
Each of these cameras is connected to either CapturePost or OutPost via the "Canon EOS Camera" driver.
In CapturePost this selection is made from File > Setup. In OutPost the camera is selected via Camera > Capture setup.
Connecting the cameras
The Canon EOS driver in CapturePost and OutPost requires certain drivers and files to be installed by Canon. In particular the driver requires the Canon WIA driver to be installed. This occurs automatically when installing the Canon Remote Capture shooting software. It is therefore imperative that Canon's Remote Capture software be installed prior to connecting the camera
After installing the Canon Remote Capture software it recommended the user runs the camera in tethered shooting mode with the Canon software to confirm the necessary drivers and files have been installed. Once this step has been completed successfully the camera should be able to connect to CapturePost and OutPost.
Conflicts with ACDSee
The popular image broswer ACDSee can conflict with the Canon EOS driver preventing the camera from connecting to CapturePost and OutPost. It is therefore recommended ACDSee be removed the computer.
Canon EOS 1DMk II
This camera can connect to the computer by either firewire or USB. However only the firewire connection supports tethered shooting.
Canon EOS II Driver
Later versions of CapturePost and OutPost have been updated to incorporate the new Canon DIGIC II SDK. This means both these programs support the later Canon digital cameras.
With a few exceptions cameras supported by the Canon EOS II Driver do not require Canon's WIA device driver to be installed

Beware Windows "Found New Device"
When a camera is connected, Windows will often recognize it and automatically attempt to control it. This is undesirable as it may mean Windows files and drivers will be used instead of those required for use with CapturePost and OutPost.
To disable this action go to the Control Panel>Scanners and find the camera in question. Then select "Do Nothing" as the action to take when the camera is connected.
