Windows Defender and other virus scan software

By default, the real-time protection provided by Windows Defender and other virus scanning software, scans all files accessed from a remote location such as a network drive. Since most timestone users store their resources (images, templates and graphics) on network locations, not on their local computer, the scanning of these files can severely slow down various tasks undertaken by the software.
Some examples of where the software needs to access these resources are listed below. These tasks are all impacted by virus scanning of the files before the task can be completed.
- Opening a job (templates)
- Importing images
- Merging TNJ files into the database (images, templates and graphics)
- Printing (images, templates and graphics
How much difference does it make ?
The speed improvements gained by not scanning a job's resources will vary depending on many factors such as the number and size of the files accessed, network speed and specifications of both the local computer and the file server.
Anecdotally, some users have reported jobs that were taking over 10 minutes to open, dropped to a matter of seconds while printing speeds have also greatly improved.
It is strongly recommended the timestone processes (the applications' exe) are excluded from Windows Defender and any other virus scanning software you use. This should be done on all computers using Timestone Software including servers.
Adding exclusions to Windows Defender
The following will vary slightly depending on the operating system
Start>Windows Security > Virus and threat protection > Manage settings > Exclusions >Add exclusions
Add an exclusion for each of the timestone applications used on the computer. The process name is simply the name of the executable file (exe) as listed below.
