Variable text in a template

Is it possible to print a field conditional on the value of the field or another field. I know you can use the {} brackets to print a text value if that value is true, ie not null. Can you print some thing based on the value of the field?
eg if the @field1 = "2" then print @field2 or if @field1 = 3 then print @field3.

If there is a way to do "if then's" like that, I'm going to be very upset with myself for not knowing.... Followed by a field day of things I would use that for.

I don't believe what you're trying to do can be achieved this way, but it should be moved to the wish list.

No this can't be done but it is a good idea.
